STEFAN MATHERS
PORTUGUESE PHOTOGRAPHER
BIO
My journey as a photographer started very early with the Gameboy and a game that was a camera that, at the time, looked more like a computer webcam and a mini printer. I have always photographed with cameras, cell phones, and disposable cameras. My objective has always been to capture emotion and unique moments and create the best images possible with the best quality.
Freeze a "perfect" moment and make it eternal.
After completing secondary school at an international school (Cambridge), I studied at several universities until I realized that photography was not just a hobby but what I wanted to do professionally.
Then, I enrolled and completed the photography course in Porto. I grew up in Espinho with a group of friends who surfed and bodyboarded. It was a golden age! At a very young age, they were already surfing like athletes, and this awakened in me the passion not to surf but to photograph them. The sea and the waves became mesmerizing. When people ask me why I don't surf, my answer is almost always the same: "with the camera, I can catch all the waves." A passion that today made me travel almost around the world looking for the perfect wave (Teahupo'o-Tahiti) and take on the mission of also photographing the biggest, the Nazaré wave."
